Luke 19:11-27                         KINGDOM INVESTING

Parable: a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.   It is easy to really dive off into the weeds of a parable and get lost.  Parables are not scripture accounts of an event; they are stories to convey or illustrate a spiritual truth.

This is a PARABLE.

Luke 19:11-27             “As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’ But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’  And the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.’  And he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’  Then another came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief; for I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ He said to him, ‘I will condemn you with your own words, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a severe man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow?  Why then did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’  And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’  And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’  ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.  But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”   ESV

NOTE: A Mina is about 50 shekels or approximately a pound of money….in a time money was weighed in a balance.

The POINT:  The Kingdom of God is coming soon!

The days we currently live in are numbered and counting down daily!  This world and this flesh were NOT designed to be eternal.

The second coming of Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Messiah, is just around the bend.

God’s plan is for His people to be active in Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, Fellowship and Discipleship.

These 5 are the calling of each and every believer.

God gifts us the Spiritual gifts, talents, abilities, passions, time, funding, resources, location and more to GO and be HIS witnesses, spreading HIS light in a dark and stormy world.

God gives us the resources (Minas) and responsibility to multiply.

Christians do NOT act like Jesus is coming soon.

Believers do NOT act like our time to serve God here on the MISSION FIELD is limited and quickly ending.

God gives us great treasure!

We become complacent, happy to “SIT ON OUR LAURELS”

Forgetting that they are not even “OUR” laurels.

We think there is plenty of time

There may be eons of time remaining

There may not be any time remaining

WE are to serve, obey and ACT like Christ’s return is imminent!

One was very faithful – great reward – well done good servant – BLESSED

One was a little faithful – little reward – but reward – BLESSED

One was Unfaithful – Conviction – What did you do with what I gave you!  Condemned by ow own words and INACTIONS.  BLESSING GIVEN AWAY

Faith Pleases God (Hebrews 11:6)

Reserved for those who reject the King of kings and Lord of lords.

These are LOST to destruction.  DAMNED

This is God’s House Series, #1      “This is God’s House”   6/1/14

  1. This is God’s House

o   It is not yours

  • Genesis 28:20-22 “Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.” ESV

o   We lose sight of our mission to serve God

  • Love Him first and Foremost
  • Love our neighbors
  • To GO
  • To SHARE
  • To SERVE
  • To GIVE
  • To LOVE

o   The church is the only cooperative society in the world that exists for the benefit of its non-members.

o   Thom S. Rainer – President and CEO of your SBC’s Lifeway Christian Resources said that the largest reason for church decline is an “INWARD focus.

o   In a museum at Greenfield Village, Detroit, Michigan, there is a huge steam locomotive. Beside this complicated piece of machinery is a sign showing boiler pressure, size and number of wheels, horsepower, lengths, weight and more. The bottom line indicates that 96% of the power generated was used to move the locomotive and only 4% was left to pull the load. We must be careful not to become like the locomotive – with most of our energy and resources being spent to move us – and not move the World toward Christ. .

o   Church becomes more about us than about God’s Purpose for the church

o   Always REMEMBER that YOU are HIS Church, Bound together by HIS Love to fulfill HIS purpose!

o   Ours is not a “Look what WE did!” Faith – Christianity is “LOOK WHAT GOD DID!” reality

  1. Everything in it belongs to Him

o   Even you

  • God made ALL, is in ALL and owns ALL

o   I belong to God

  • This last Wednesday we dived into Galatians 4:12 – 20
    • The simple message of all of that is:
    • The pastor is not PRIMARY in the Church:  GOD IS!
    • Worship God
    • Serve GOD
    • Remain Faithful to GOD
    • Remain in GOD’S WORD
    • The Pastor is a PERSON
    • GOD is GOD

o   Even the “Crowns of Glory” we strive for, belong to God!

  • You didn’t build that!  God DID!
  • You WILL NOT EVEN want to keep them once you bow before Him in Glory!  You will throw them before His throne and give thanks
    • Revelation 4:10-11 “They casttheir crowns before the throne, saying,  “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”  ESV
  1. Everything here is to BRING HIM GLORY

o   1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 “So, whether you eat or drink, orwhatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or tothe church of God,  just asI try to please everyone in everything I do,not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”   ESV

  1. Hebrews 3:1-6 “Therefore, holy brothers, you who share ina heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’shouse.  For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.  (For every house is built by someone, butthe builder of all things is God.) Now Moses was faithful in all God’s houseas a servant,to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house asa son. Andwe are his house if indeed wehold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.”   ESV
